these writing hiccups definitely leave room for improvement/development in their style, should the authors choose to write another story together so i see that as a positive thing, because it can only get better from here. i also had some slight issues with the inconstancies in dialogue, the predictability of the plot, and the cliched character development. the introductions and explanations are very awkward and do not feel natural to the story. sometimes it feels as if parts of a wikipedia page are just copied and pasted into the narrative. its full of information about japanese folklore and has definitely piqued my interest in the subject.īut i cant help but feel the authors struggled to seamlessly incorporate that information into the narrative. If this book has anything going for it, its the creativity of the plot and the representation of japanese culture. its impossible to not see how deeply inspired this is by the two media forms and i think thats what makes this so fun. I wouldnt really consider myself a massive anime or manga fan, but i enjoyed this story.
